Our Wines

We pride ourselves in making small batches of superb, distinct wine, sourced from family vineyards. Tucked away in the idyllic Napa Valley’s “nested” appellation of Chiles Valley (once known as the “High Valley”), our vineyards lie 600 to 800 feet above the Napa Valley floor. Our vines benefit from this unique terroir, with its high-altitude breezes, milder climate, and extended growing period. Our 12 vineyard blocks are named in honor of each of our founding father’s 12 children.

Our old-fashioned attention to detail is complemented by our investment in the latest winemaking equipment and the technical rigor of our fifth-generation head winemaker, Aimée Sunseri, a graduate of UC Davis in Viticulture and Enology.

Nichelini classics include Cabernet Sauvignon, old-vine Zinfandel and our renowned Muscadelle de Bordelais (formerly titled Sauvignon Vert). In addition, we have an exceptional Sauvignon Blanc, Petite Sirah and some limited releases available only at the winery.

"It is a heavy baton to carry, but the honor of making legacy wines only drives me towards perfecting my craft," says Aimée.

Taste the difference 120 years makes.

This wine was made from 100% Petite Sirah grapes hand-harvested from the Antoinette Block, named in honor of the 11th Nichelini child, born in 1913. Because of the vineyard location, it is known as “High Valley” Petite Sirah. Aimée’s objective is to create a Petite Sirah that highlights the power of this variety. The block that the grapes come from is an older section that struggles. The vines are intentionally thinned late for added stress to the vines, and they are thinned to ensure a balanced, uniform and distinctive crop. The result is a complex, inky-dark red wine that is full-bodied, very long-lived, with flavors of vanilla and blackberry, has well-structured tannins, a mild mid-palate and lingering finish.

This wine was made from 100% Zinfandel grapes planted by our family in 1929, during Prohibition. They are low-yielding and dry-farmed, resulting in exceptional density of flavor. A vibrant, garnet-red wine, barrel-aged in oak, revealing a nose and flavors of black currant, creamy vanilla and raisin, with medium to light body and softly structured tannins. This exceptional Zin reveals the complexity and maturity that only a truly Old Vine can produce.

This 100% Merlot reflects the concentrated depth of flavor that 33-year-old vines produce while exhibiting softness and a medium body. It is rich in color with intense fruit flavors reminiscent of black cherries along with notes of black current and a little cedar. Hand-harvested at night and aged in 50% new American oak and 45% neutral American and 5% French neutral oak, this wine stood out right from the start.

This wine is 100% Sémillon with a medium body with a crisp finish. It was barrel fermented in 100% new French oak for three months. The result is a Bordeaux-style white wine with a color of champagne pearl, aromas of citrus and pear with a smoothness and slight creamy richness to the body; a delicious lemon soufflé.

Muscadelle (Sauvignon Vert) is a Nichelini family classic. This dry white Bordeaux varietal comes from a small vineyard block planted 69 years ago, named for Rose, the 6th Nichelini child, born in 1899. The grape production of these rare old vines is low, concentrating their unique varietal flavors. The grapes were hand-harvested in the cool of night, slowly fermented, and have had no contact with oak. The wine expresses itself with a refreshing balance of nuanced notes of mineral, peach and citrus and has a soft, long finish. With only 8 acres planted in Napa County and 60 total in California this is a rare opportunity to treat yourself to an unusual, exquisite white wine!

This wine is a blend of two of Bordeaux’s white varietals: Muscadelle 70%, and Sémillon 30%. We planted the Muscadelle in 1946 and the Sémillon 2007. This mixture of young and old opened the opportunity to experiment and to do something interesting with two grapes that uniquely support each other. Estate grown, the grapes were hand-harvested and individually fermented in stainless steel. After blending, the wine was cellared in stainless for two months with no oak contact and then bottled. The result is a wonderful light-bodied white Bordeaux-blend style with refreshing floral and citrus notes. With only 8 acres of Muscadelle and 120 acres of Sémillon grown in Napa Valley, this wine is a rare treat indeed! 214 cases made

This wine is the finale to our 125th anniversary year! It is 50% Pinot Grigio, which is actually a variation on Pinot Noir, and 50% Sauvignon Blanc. It was naturally fermented in the bottle in the traditional French method and aged in glass for a little over a year. Aimée, our winemaker, wanted something that the family had never done before and to discover what the terroir in the cooler Chiles Valley District of Napa Valley can do for a sparkling wine. The result is a very pale yellow, bright, clean wine with aromas and flavors of citrus that are refreshing on the palette. Only 125 cases made, one for each year. A Silver medal winner at the 2016 International Women's Wine Competition!

This wine was made from Petite Sirah grapes hand-harvested from the Josephine Block, named in honor of the 3rd Nichelini child, born in 1894. Petite Sirah has been grown in California in the 1880s and produced by Nichelini as a single varietal since the 1970s. Because of the vineyard location, it is known as “High Valley” Petite Sirah. This is a complex wine that is a dark, inky purple color, medium-bodied, and long-lived with a nose of plum, black cherry and vanilla, with warming flavors of ripe blackberry and a smooth finish.
